| Description | Under this area are the central facilities of the fortress. Below the lane, where there is the elevator, was a shaft open to the surface during the construction period. Besides there was a stationary concrete plant. Above the elevator motor is still a part of the original, raw shaft with three ladders, and then a horizontal tunnel to the bunker «Pilz». From this connecting tunnel, the bunker is then accessible via a raw shaft with a long ladder. In recent years of the fort, this bunker was battle technically no longer relevant, and the original access above the lift motor has been obstructed with an foul-air duct. At the highest point in this area (1217 m ASL) was a central observation dome. This dome was dismantled in 2000 and the underlying concrete structure used as the foundation for an antenna of a GPS reference station. St. Margrethenberg, Switzerland, Sep 10, 2011. |
