Summary[edit]
English: The illuminated fragments of the former Main Synagogue's columned hall at Hindenburgstraße, Mainz-Neustadt. Mainz's former Main Synagogue was built 1910-12 by architect Willy Graf from Stuttgart, burnt down by SS troups during the 1938 Novemberpogrome on 10 November and blasted on 17 November by order of the public construction authority. The fragments were set up as a memorial in 1988 at Hindenburgstraße 44 (todays Synagogenplatz) and restored during the construction of the New Synagogue in Mainz, that can be seen in the background. |
