English: Photography, reproduced as postcard No. 239, published by G.S.K.B. (Georg Selle Kunstanstalt, Berlin); electronically enhanced with Gimp 2.10 by Werner Wiese.

Monument of composer and kapellmeister Franz Abt in Brunswick, dedicated July 13, 1891; melted down for its material to support the war machine during WW II. Design by Carl Friedrich Echtermeier (* 1845; † 1910), cast in bronze by Hermann Heinrich Howaldt (*1841; †1891).

The swallows on the monument’s base are reminiscent of a well-known song composed by Franz Abt: When the Swallows Homeward Fly.

Denkmal für den Komponisten und Kapellmeister Franz Abt in Braunschweig, eingeweiht am 13. Juli 1891; während des Zweiten Weltkriegs zu Kriegszwecken eingeschmolzen. Entwurf: Carl Friedrich Echtermeier (* 1845; † 1910), Ausführung: Bronzeguss von Hermann Heinrich Howaldt (*1841; †1891).

Die Schwalben am Sockel des Denkmals erinnern an ein bekanntes von Franz Abt komponiertes Lied: Wenn die Schwalben heimwärts zieh´n.
