Description

Postcard print of a crowd at Herne Bay, Kent, England, titled "Round the Jollity Boys". The Jollity Boys was probably the name of an entertainment troupe. The photograph would have been taken after Palmer moved to Herne Bay in 1905, and before WWI started in 1914.

The photographer was Fred C. Palmer of Tower Studio, Herne Bay, Kent, who is believed to have died 1936-1939.

Points of interest
  • The location is probably on the Downs at the east end of Herne Bay, on the roof of the King's Hall, where deckchairs could be arranged in tiers as they are here.
  • Summer boaters and best clothes are worn by the audience.
