Summary[edit]

Description
English: In 1848, conch blowers and drums called slaves to gather in Frederiksted for the slave insurrection that led to immediate emancipation in the Danish West Indies. There are several copies of "Freedom Statue" throughout the United States Virgin Islands and Denmark. The statue pictured is located in Franklin A. Powell Sr. Park in Cruz Bay, Saint John.
