Monument to the founder of the German gymnastics and physical fitness (Turner) movement

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, also known as "Vater Jahn" was founder of the German gymnastics (Turner) movement and proponent of healthy living through physical fitness. The monument was commissioned by the North American Turners under the artistic direction of German sculptor Robert Cauer (the younger), who also created the castings of Jahn (center) and allegorical figures (left and right). The memorial was dedicated in 1913. It resides in St. Louis' Forest Park, site of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, a.k.a. 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, not far from the Art Museum.
