Summary[edit]
DescriptionFuneral of O'Donovan Rossa, graveside in Glasnevin Cemetery, St. James's band, crowds (26203288753).jpg |
The Fools, the Fools, the Fools! One hundred years and one day after his execution by firing squad in Kilmainham Gaol we have Padraig Pearse in a crowd shot! This should provide rich pickings identifying characters who were to go on and play a part in the drama that was to unfold one year later. Today's contributors remind us of the ongoing effort to name those in this image. Helped by this numbered version, the Glasnevin Trust have sourced names for more than a few in the image. Apart from the St James's Band in the background, and the more obvious nationally known names (Pearse, Griffith, MacDonagh, MacBride, Brugha, Clarke, Béaslaí, Plunkett, Ó Ceallaigh, etc), members of the public have put names to others there that day. If any of our contributors can help, the Glasnevin Trust would I'm sure be delighted with the input....
