Summary[edit]

Description

CLAY NATIONAL GUARD CENTER, Marietta, April 1, 2011 – The center played host today to Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) director Charley English. English – accompanied by Maj. Gen. Terry Nesbitt, Georgia’s Adjutant General, and members of the post’s Construction and Facilities Management Office (CFMO) – who was here to tour the new Joint Operations Center (JOC) area that is part of the new Joint Forces Headquarters building under construction on the installation’s west side.

From the left Nesbitt and English are shown floor plans of the new building by Maj. Flint Tyler, the CFMO’s director of military construction, and given an idea of how, and where, the JOC’s new space fits into the facility.

Nesbitt said that, because of the close relationship the Georgia Guard has with GEMA, it was important to provide its director with a personal view of the space and the continued role the Guard and the JOC will play in the homeland defense and support to civil authority missions during state emergencies. English said he was quite impressed with the layout and future plans for the JOC, and knows the mutual support and respect his organization and the Guard have had with each other over the years will continue to grow.

Construction of the new JFHQ building began in December 2009, three months after the Georgia Department of Defense and National Guard took full possession of what used to be Naval Air Station Atlanta, said Col. Randal Carter, the construction and facilities management officer. Carter, too, participated in English’s tour of the building. Its projected completion date, he said, is September of this year. Its first tenants, Carter added, are expected to move in during the first quarter of 2012.
