Gettysburg National Military Park Gettysburg, Pennsylvania D66 March 11, 1963 Memorandum To: Regional Director, Northeast Region From: Superintendent, Gettysburg Subject: Proposed South Carolina Memorial We are enclosing prints of the proposed South Caroling Memorial. These were furnished by Bruns Monumental Company, 2311 Two Notch Road, Columbia, South Carolina, Approval is recommended. The site selected for the memorial is on the west side of West Confederate Avenue, a short distance south of the Georgia Memorial which was dedicated in September, 1961. The exact location is midway between Manly’s and Carlton’s Batteries as shown on the attached map. We have been informed by Mr. Connolly of the Bruns Monumental Company that the inscription to be carved on this memorial will be sent to us for approval in about four weeks. He is quite concerned about the time needed to cut and carve the stone so that it can be ready for dedication on July 1st and for this reason is asking that the design as shown by those prints be approved. Accordingly we will send the proposed lettering at a later date. An early consideration of this matter will be appreciated. Kittridge A.
