| Description |
English: Terrace Springs is a cluster of hot springs on the northern flanks of the lower Gibbon River Valley, about 1.8 air-kilometers northeast of the Gibbon River-Firehole River-Madison River junction. The bubbling, roiling, and splashing behavior of the springs is not geyser activity - it's volcanic gases escaping through warm bodies of water. The largest spring is Terrace Spring itself (= GTSANN001 in the RCN database), which has an elongated, northeast-southwest oriented basin over 100 meters along the major axis and about 37 meters across at its widest. In 1999, researchers measured the water temperature at 59° Celsius, with a pH of 6.3 (= slightly acidic). |
