Description
Deutsch: Beschreibung aus Karl Woermanns Galeriekatalog 1887: Kephalos an der Leiche der Prokris. Nach der griechischen Fabel (Ovid’s Metamorphosen, VII. 835–865) hatte Kephalos seine im Gebüsch versteckte Geliebte Prokris, die ihm aus Eifersucht heimlich auf die Jagd gefolgt war, sie für ein Wild haltend, getötet. Rechts liegt ihre Leiche, deren Brust vom Pfeil durchbohrt ist, halb aufrecht an einem Felsen. Links sitzt Kephalos verzweifelnd auf einem Steine, hält seine Hände über’s Knie gefaltet und lässt seine Blicke klagend gen Himmel schweifen, wo ein kleiner weinender Amor flattert.
