Fluorescent tagging of the proteins governed by Atb2 (green) and Rlc1 (red) during anaphase and cytokineses showing the function of the proteins

Summary[edit]

Description
English: A time-lapse microscopy of the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe during late anaphase and early cytokineses. Two proteins were tagged by two fluorescent proteins: GFP for the protein governed by the gene Atb2, and RFP for the gene governed by the gene Rlc1. A time lapse was then taken to observe the function of these tagged proteins during cell reproduction. As shown the GFP tagged protein functions in the assistance of microtubule maintenance, which is important as microtubules are needed to both strengthen the cell and allow the daughter cells to be pulled apart during cytokines, while the RFP tagged protein assists in the formation of the contractile ring which is what physically cleaves the daughter cells once reproduction is complete.
