Description
English: A scene of the Chapter "SUZUMUSHI" of Illustrated handscroll of Tale of Genji (written by MURASAKI SHIKIBU(11th cent.). Color on paper ,21.8cm x 48.2cm. The handscroll was made in about ACE1130 and stored in GOTOH Museum, Japan. The handscroll were separated to each sections and mounted to frame for conservation.
日本語: 紙本著色／一面　平安時代後期・12世紀　　縦21.8cm　横48.2cm　　五島美術館蔵 『源氏物語』第３８帖「鈴虫」の二番目の場面。月見の宴に招かれた光源氏が、弟の冷泉院（実は源氏と継母藤壺との不義の子）と対座し語り合う。右上の群青の空と銀の満月が夜を象徴する。天井を取り去り室内を表現する「吹抜屋台」の技法で描く。
