Summary[edit]

Description
English: Portrait of George Dacres, c. 1901. Published in An illustrated history of Walla Walla County, State of Washington. George Dacres was born in Ireland in 1828, immigrating to the United States in 1849, where over the next 30 years he spent time as a clerk in California, a boundary surveyor in Washington territory, a miner in the Fraser River valley and a pack mule driver throughout the Pacific Northwest. In 1875 he settled down on a 1000 acre farm on the outskirts of Walla Walla, Washington, where besides farming he sat on the city council and took a great interest in local real estate, including the construction of the grand Dacres Hotel in 1899. He died in 1902 and is buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla.
