Notes |
English: "Charles, Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach, was Queen’s Caroline’s nephew; he inherited from his father in 1723 and married the daughter of Frederick William I of Prussia in 1729, George I's granddaughter. This unhappy marriage produced one surviving child.
This is one of a pair of full-length portraits of husband and wife (RCIN 406794-5), identically framed. The Margravine appears here with an infant, either her firstborn Charles (1733-7) or her longer-lived second son, Alexander (1736-1806). This dates the pair to c. 1734 or 1737." [1] |
