Description
Français : Transcription du texte au dessus du dessin : « Figure du monstre qui désole le Gévaudan. Cette bête est de la taille d'un jeune taureau, elle attaque de préférence les femmes et les enfan(t)s, boit leur sang, leur coupe la tête et l'emporte. Il est promis 2700 lt (livres tournois) à qui tuerait cet animal. »
Cette gravure est a priori antérieure à janvier 1765, date à laquelle le roi Louis XV a promis une récompense de 6000 livres tournois à qui tuerait la Bête, portant ainsi le total des récompenses à 9000 livres tournois.
English: Translation of the text above the drawing : "Drawing of the monster that afflicts Gevaudan. This beast is the size of a young bull. It prefers to attack women and children. It drinks their blood, cuts their head off, and carries them away. 2700 francs are promised to who kills this animal."
This engraving is supposed to be ante January 1765, when King Louis XV promised a reward of 6,000 livres tournois (the french currency of the time) to who will kill the beast, bringing the total rewards to 9000 livres tournois.
