English: Meteorology - Camping - Open air ablutions during the early stages of the establishment of the Federal Weather Station at Giles in the Rawlinson Ranges, Western Australia, more than 1100 miles from Perth the State capital and about the same distance north west from Adelaide, South Australia, - The oil drums contain artesian bore water - The station is equipped with the latest electronic instruments and as well as being an important addition to Australia's highly developed weather service, its work will be of great value to the atomic testing grounds at Maralinga and at Woomera in South Australia - The station was named in honour of Ernest Giles the explorer who in 1872-1876 discovered the country in and around the Rawlinson Ranges |
