[Meed journal: ""Pay dirt" mound on Mining Claim No. 39 below Hunker Creek. The mound on the left is the "paydirt" material raised from underground during the winter. It is termed the "dump". In spring when water flows, this is shoveled into wooden sluice boxes. Slats of wood nailed across the bottom form riffles to catch the heavier gold as light gravel and sand are washed away to form the tailings."].
