Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Gondola Macaroni Company building, 1985 Niagara Street at Austin Street, Buffalo, New York, September 2020. Though classified as a commercial iteration of the Queen Anne style, the Gondola Macaroni building presents a very unusual, carpenter-style interpretation thereof: the circular corner bay is topped not with a turret tower but with a festoon-bedecked drum, sporting dentil rows matching those at the roofline, while the Niagara Street façade is crowned by a parapet in the form of a low-angled broken pediment. The side elevation facing Austin Street is more conventional, featuring second-floor bay windows spaced irregularly. The building was constructed in 1898 and was the longtime home of Frederick Seisser's drugstore, which he operated until his retirement in the early 1920s and in which he continued to live as late as 1925; it also served for as time as the city's Postal Substation No. 10. Gondola Macaroni has been in business since 1958 and has occupied the storefront space at 1985 Niagara Street since 1966.
