Description

NEW ULM, MN, (Dec. 6, 2017) — It is with great excitement that the August Schell Brewing Company, Minnesota-based brewers of Grain Belt beer, announces the relighting of the iconic Grain Belt sign in Minneapolis.

Grain Belt has been owned by the August Schell Brewing Company since 2002 and efforts to acquire this historical Minneapolis landmark have been in the works since. In 2016, the purchase of the Grain Belt Beer sign located on Nicollet Island and surrounding land was finalized with the hopes of seeing the infamous flashing lights in the Minneapolis skyline once again.

After 15 years of negotiations, planning, permits, and hard work, they will be flipping the switch and relighting the sign on Saturday, December 30th, 2017 at 5:30 PM.

“The Grain Belt Beer sign both reflects and contributes to the downtown Minneapolis character as a historic industrial and commercial city,” said Ted Marti, president and fifth-generation descendant of brewery founder, August Schell. “As a historic Minnesota brewery, we’re committed to preserving our history and the history of our state.”

The sign lighting will be open to the public and the “After Glow” party will be a ticketed event, sales begin Wednesday December 13.
