| Description |
English: Grave of Duncan Ban McIntyre Despite never having learned to read, Glenorchy-born Donnchadh Ban Mac an t-Saoir (1724-1812) is widely acknowledged to have been one of the greatest Gaelic poets ever to have lived; many consider that his finest poem was "Moladh Beinn Dobhrain" (In Praise of Ben Dorain). His early life was spent working as forester and gamekeeper in Argyll and Perthshire, until he moved to Edinburgh in 1767, seeing service in the City Guard and scratching a living from selling illicit whisky in the Lawnmarket. |
