Description
English:

During the winter of 1892-1893, workers extended the Great Northern Railway through Stevens Pass in the Cascade Mountains. They built trestles to carry the tracks across deep ravines on the steep slopes. Construction work continued even in the ice and snow. This photo shows a Great Northern Railway bridge in the snow west of Stevens Pass. Workmen have cleared the trees, blasted through rock, and built the trackbed and trestle. The next step will be to lay the track across the trestle.
