Summary[edit]

Description

English: Valley of the “Große Lauter“, view from the Naturschutzgebiet “Buttenhausener Eichhalde“. The stream Lauter meanders from the left across the floodplain to the opposite side. The extremely broad floodplain must have been sedimented by a “Ur-Lauter”, likely a much larger water course. The natural ecological succession on the front part of the “Juniper Heath” as a result of insufficient sheep grazing, is obvious. The attempt to save Juniper heaths as cultural heritages of the Swabian Alb by defining nature reserves may be failing (for an example, what “sufficient grazing” means, see photo: Image:Wachholderheide_Verbuschung_NSG-Buttenhausener-Eichhalde_Gr-Lautertal_Schwaebische-Alb.jpg).
