Description
Deutsch: Umlaufberg des Flusses Große Lauter vor dem Durchbruch, bei Gundelfingen (Stadt Münsingen). Die Große Lauter gehört zu den letzten, die stark verkarstete Schwäbischen Alb auch heute noch nahezu gänzlich oberirdisch durchquerenden Flüsschen (Bära, Schmiech/Schmeie, Fehla/Lauchert und Brenz). Diese Flüsschen, wie auch die heute den Umlaufberg bei Gundelfingen umfließende Große Lauter, sind uralte Wasserrinnen, die Ende Pliozän und in fluvial erodierenden Zeitabschnitten des späten Pleistozän mit großen Wassermassen die Täler weiteten (Schmelzwasser in relativ warmen Epochen, oder jahreszeitlich) und zur Donau entwässerten.
Flüsse in vielen Mittelgebirgen Deutschlands haben durch fluviale Erosion Umlaufberge gebildet. In einigen Fällen kam es auch zu Durchbrüchen und Aufgabe der regulären Schlingenutzung (z.B. bei Obere Donau, Neckar, Nagold, Main, Mosel, Saar, Sieg).

English: Near meander cutoff of the Grosse Lauter in Gundenfingen (Stadt Münsingen). Now a small rivulet, this rivulet is of Late Pliocene origin. Predominantly in relatively warm times of Late Ice ages (Late Pleistocene), melting waters enlarged the valley dramatically, before joining the Upper Danube.
