Summary[edit]

Description
English: "Grove House," Hollington, East Sussex, England. Print of Grove House, which was actually located within the boundaries of St Leonards, although the mansion's outbuildings were within the limits of the village of Hollington. Built by the Levett family, the estate was later inherited by the sister of the last Levett owner, Lawrence Levett, who died in 1585. The next year (1586) Levett's sister and heiress Mary married Sir Thomas Eversfield, Kt., who later served as High Sheriff of Sussex in 1599. The home was lived in by a succession of Eversfield thereafter, including Sir Thomas's son Nicholas Eversfield, Esq., High Sheriff of Sussex in 1619. The last member of the family to reside at Grove House was Sir Charles Eversfield, Baronet, who died in 1785. The Eversfields subsequently resided at Denne Park near Horsham. The house fell into disrepair, was replaced by a farmhouse, and later by a large modern residence, with only the chimneys retained from the original building. [from "Contributions Toward a Parochial History of Hollington," by S. Arnott, rector, published in Sussex Archaeological Collections relating to the History and Antiquities of the County, published by the Sussex Archaeological Society, George Bacon (printer), Lewes, Sussex, 1869.] and [from 'A Compendius History of Sussex,' by Mark Antony Lower, Lewes, London, Brighton, 1870].
