| Description |
The preserved former Haltwhistle signal box located by the Down Main line east of Haltwhistle station. Thursday 9th July 2009 Haltwhistle signal box is a North Eastern Railway non standard design which opened around the turn of the 20th century. In 1927 a reconditioned 87 lever McKenzie and Holland Number 17 replacement frame was installed. The signal box was listed as a Grade II listed building on 27th July 1987. On 23rd May 1993 the lever frame was taken out of use, and ticket working replaced absolute block between Low Road, Haltwhistle and Bardon Mill signal boxes in preperation for Haltwhistle signal box's closure and replacement. Closure took place on 30th May 1993 when it was replaced by a portacabin-type building fitted with a panel located 145 yard to the west, at the opposite end of the station |
