Description

May Department Store — corner of 8th and Broadway in Downtown Los Angeles. This was before they added an addition to the south.

  • Originally the Hamburgers & Sons Department Store, and built by them in 1908.
  • The May Company left this store in the 1980s for a new shopping center downtown at Citicorp Plaza (now 7+Fig at Ernst & Young Plaza).
  • This is now the Broadway Trade Center I believe.
  • May Company was later merged with J.W. Robinson's to form Robinson's-MAY. This nameplate disappeared when Macy's bought the May Department Stores chain.
