Summary
[edit]DescriptionHanging Falls, Clayton - geograph.org.uk - 392600.jpg |
English: Hanging Falls, Clayton. View from the top of the steep drop above Hole Bottom Beck, west of Clayton, presumably called Hanging Falls because of the terrain.
Although come to think of it, Clayton was the birthplace and home of a certain Albert Pierrepoint, who at the age of 11 in one of those school 'when I grow up' exercises wrote: 'When I leave school I should like to be the Official Executioner'. Albert did indeed become the United Kingdom's last state executioner, hanging some 450 people between 1932 and 1956. But forget all that and enjoy the view, it's surely just a coincidence. |
