Summary[edit]
DescriptionHelicopter rescue on Dog Mountain (29942070966).jpg | A Eurocopter AS350-B Écureuil (AStar), identified as C-FTHZ, flown by contractor Talon, hovers during the rescue of an injured hiker near this rocky outcropping known as Dog Mountain in Mount Seymour Provincial Park. The trail to this rock is only 5 km round trip, but is mostly exposed, wet tree roots, interspersed with wet rocks. The helicopter circled this crowded rock for a while, until its "body language" made it clear to the few dozen hikers on the rock that it wanted them of the way; there was no PA system on board. The air was very calm, but even so, it chose to hover like this, rather than land, delivering two rescuers for the initial assessment. The complete rescue required four trips, six rescuers, and a stretcher. In the background lies Burnaby, east of Vancouver, across the Burrard Inlet. British Columbia, Canada. |
