Summary[edit]

The undated drawing of the 1920s shows a part of the front of the Helmholtzschule as can be viewed from Habsburgerallee. Easy to see are the clock tower on roof top with the flagpost as well as the main entrance. At the right corner of the building there is a lower roof with dormer windows below the huge assembly hall windows. Below this roof was the access between the foyer and the gym gallery, This access was destroyed during a WWII bombardment on 4 Oct 1943. Also destroyed was the whole roof of the building, the clock tower and an annex building which was used by the school's principal and the beadle.

Die undatierte Zeichnung aus den 1920er Jahren zeigt neben der großen Uhr auf dem voluminösen Walmdach den zu dieser Zeit noch nicht von Pflanzen überwucherten Haupteingang. An der rechten Ecke erkennt man unterhalb der großen Fenster der Aula ein niedrig angesetztes Schrägdach mit drei Dachgauben. Unter diesem war der Zugang zwischen Haupteingangshalle und Turnhallen-Empore, das auch einen Zugang zur Turnhalle ermöglichte. Dieser Anbau wurde durch einen Bombenangriff am 4. Oktober 1943 zerstört und nicht wieder aufgebaut. Ebenfalls zerstört wurden das Schulhaus-Dach mit der Schuluhr und ein Annex-Gebäude mit Übergang zum Schulhaus, das vom Schuldirektor und dem Pedell genutzt wurde.
