| Description |
This handsome young couple with the relaxed demeanour are Mr. and Mrs. Kieran Carroll, Monablenchmeen, Urlingford, Co.Kilkenny! They look very comfortable in each others' company and as if they have been married long enough to be over the honeymoon period. And yet the seem still in the first flush of being "in love"! Given that Monablenchmeen (or 'Monablanchmeen' with an 'a') was a relatively small place, some investigations by [/photos/gnmcauley/ Niall McAuley] and [/photos/scorbet/ sharon.corbet] suggested that the man pictured was Kieran (or Kyran) Carroll, born in August 1901. While we didn't have confirmation of the occasion captured, at the 11th hour (and perhaps even after midnight), [/photos/20727502@N00/ guliolopez] stopped-the-presses with a last minute scoop. And found an entry from the Munster Express of June 1943, which would seem to confirm that this picture marked the occasion of the wedding of Kieran Carroll and Lena Hogan (Coolroebeg) on Wednesday 16 June 1943. The couple had their (combined?) wedding dinner at the Imperial Hotel - very close to Poole's studio.... Photographer: A. H.
