Description
English: Hipponix prionocidaricola (Habe & Kanazawa, 1991); Length 2.8 cm; Originating from the Philippines; Shell of own collection, therefore not geocoded.
The representatives of the family Hipponicidae live on the shells of other mollusks. Thererby they leave an identation of their shell in the form of a horse's hoof (hence the name "hoof snails"). This shell shows clearly such an identation, caused by another, smaller specimen, possibly of the same species.
Deutsch: Hipponix prionocidaricola (Habe & Kanazawa, 1991); Länge 2,8 cm; Herkunft: Philippinen.
Die Vertreter der Familie Hipponicidae leben auf den Schalen anderer Mollusken. Dabei hinterlassen sie einen Abdruck ihrer Schale in Form eines Pferdehufs (daher der Name "Hufschnecken"). Dieses Gehäuse zeigt einen solchen Abdruck, verursacht von einem anderen, kleineren Tier mögicherweise der selben Art.
