Taken outside my House, found this guy on the road and he looked a bit peckish (LOL) and ran in and got him seed and got me my camera. He ate all the seed and found a Grasshopper to eat and play with too. he enjoyed it so much i could get two feet away from him for 20 mins, the finally being spooked by the heighbours cat which got quickly shoooed of before getting in fireing range!! Hope he does well in life! Also Today I did a bit of ringing at pitsford and caught: Willow Tit Wren Robin Song Thrush And the usual... Noisy and gregarious, these cheerful exploiters of man's rubbish and wastefulness, have managed to colonise most of the world. The ultimate avian opportunist perhaps. Monitoring suggests a severe decline in the UK house sparrow population, recently estimated as dropping by 71 per cent between 1977 and 2008 with substantial declines in both rural and urban populations. Whilst the decline in England continues, Breeding Bird Survey data indicate recent population increases in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Status: Red Population: 2.1-3.7 million pairs |
