| Description |
Built 1962, first flight 1963. The Hunting H126 was an experimental aircraft designed to test ‘jet flaps’ which diverted thrust from the main engine to increase lift, improving low speed performance. Her last flight was in November 1967. In 1969 the aircraft underwent full scale wind tunnel tests carried out by NASA in California, USA. On return the aircraft was retired. Although successful, the jet flap was complicated and reduced the main engines thrust, so it was not evaluated any further. In 1974 the H126 joined the museum at RAF Cosford and remains on display in the ‘Test Flight’ hangar. RAF Museum, Cosford, Shropshire, UK. 14th August 2016 |
