Summary[edit]
DescriptionHurst Beach from a rocky groyne - geograph.org.uk - 504511.jpg |
English: Hurst Beach from a rocky groyne The pebble bank extending off into the distance is part of Hurst Spit - this is the seaward side, facing the prevailing winds from the southwest. There is a long reach and large waves often exert themselves against the steep bank. There is a strong undertow, and swimming off this beach is prohibited. The rocks in the foreground are part of a lumpy groyne. A nearby plaque says that the stone came from Norway, put here in the 1990s during work on the sea defences. The red post on the right is a danger marker, although I have no idea what the bent pipe sticking out of the top is for - it is connected to a sunken drum via a pipe. |
