Description |
English: Rows of low white headstones stretch across the open lawn. A monument and trees are visible in the far distance. The Illinois Monument (1911), visible in the distance, interrupts the uniform pattern of headstones. The trees that surround the landscape and the overall organization of the features provide a strong sense of place. The monument portrays a sculpture of Columbia, alongside the figures of a young man and young female. The final clause of Lincoln's first Inaugural Address and the final clause of his Gettysburg Address are carved onto the pedestal.
