Iraqi state emblem (or coat of arms) adopted under the Qassem (or Kassem, Qasim etc.) regime, official from 1959-1965.
This includes a version of the ancient Mesopotamian Shamash solar symbol, but carefully avoided any emblems of pan-Arabism or Nasserism, such as the "eagle of Saladin" or "hawk of Qureish", or parallel stripes of black-white-red.
The Arabic text in the emblem is the date of the revolution of 14 Tammuz (i.e. July) 1958, and the words الجمهورية العراقية al-jumhuriya al-`iraqiya "The Iraqi Republic" above.
