Summary[edit]
DescriptionIron Ring at Gibb's Hole - geograph.org.uk - 1300646.jpg |
English: Iron Ring at Gibb's Hole. In the days of sailing ships, when a vessel arrived in the Rough Firth bound for ports further upriver (Palnackie, Dalbeattie), they would tie up at Gibb's Hole, where the channel swings close inshore, and wait for a big enough tide - Spring Tides come in the new moon and full moon period. There are still iron rings in the granite outcrops, but also sea pinks. Gibb's Hole wood 1301207 has many fine oaks and exhuberant bluebells. 1301221 The point in this picture can be oriented from here: 1301200 The lichens are representative of the many to be found on our relatively un-polluted shores: http://picasaweb.google.com/tipiglen/16?feat=directlink |
