Description
Polski: Na zdjęciu widzimy ppor. Józefa Ćwiertniaka (ps. Stefan), oficera 3 pułku piechoty.

Przed I wojną światową był dowódcą 1.Wadowickiej Drużyny Skautowej, należał także do Związku Strzeleckiego. Po wybuchu I wojny światowej wstąpił do Legionów Polskich. Awans na chorążego otrzymał on 20 października 1914 roku, zaś podporucznika 25 czerwca 1915 roku. Przed internowaniem i procesem w Marmaros-Sziget był w stopniu porucznika dowódcą 12 kompanii 3 pp. Po odzyskaniu przez Polskę niepodległości wstąpił do Wojska Polskiego, gdzie dosłużył się stopnia pułkownika. We wrześniu 1939 z powodu ciężkiej choroby leczył się w Równem. Z resztkami wojsk tego garnizonu wyruszył do Lwowa. Przy próbie przedarcia się do miasta w Hołosku pod Lwowem 21-22 IX 1939 popełnił samobójstwo. Odznaczony był m.in. VM 5.klasy i KN. Więcej: Józef Ćwiertniak w Wykazie Legionistów Polskich 1914-1918

Fotografię wykonano na początku 1916 roku w okolicach Kostuchnówki, gdzie pozycje obronne obsadziły pododdziały II Brygady Legionów Polskich.
