Summary[edit]

Description

Possibly the largest jade coffin found to date, this coffin is reconstructed from about fifteen hundred jade plaques. The round openings represent the sun and the moon. The rectangular openings along the lower edge of the coffin are thought to be gateways for the soul.

Photographed at the "Tomb Treasures" exhibit at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, California.
