Notes Catalogue Note: "Schrader (see Literature) lists two autograph versions of this composition recorded in the collections at Schloss Blankenburg, both with slightly larger dimensions. She dates the design to circa 1762-65. It was this type of portrait, whose relaxed informality provided a real contrast to the formulaic court portraiture of the preceding decades, which earned Ziesenis his reputation. The eldest daughter of Duke Karl I of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Sophie Caroline married Frederick, Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth in September 1759." [1]
