Description |
English: The painting "The Way – Spanish-Sahara" is an abstract painting by the Swiss artist Josef Ebnöther. It was created during his study trip in 1968, which led him through Morocco, through Spanish-Sahara and through parts of Mauritania that were still part of Spanish-Sahara at that time. The artist deliberately created the fissured, visible craquelé in the painting in this artistic manner of expression. A possible interpretation of this painting is helped by a painting the artist made on this trip to Mauritania: In the painting, he painted Bedouins in blue robes, abstracting but still clearly recognisable figuratively. The blue forms in the foreground of the present painting could therefore also represent Bedouins in an abstract form. With the title "The Way", the artist also explored the theme "Way" in 1968 - for the first time according to current knowledge. The theme of "Way" moved and continues to move him in the following years and decades up to the present. The beige sand-like colour of the painting, the craquelé as well as possible obstacles recognisable in the painting could very well symbolise the Sahara and represent the arduous way in the desert, but also in a superordinate sense. |
