Summary[edit]

Description
English: Jules-Étienne Dubernard (1840–1905), Paris Foreign Missions Society missionary ministering in the Apostolic Vicariate of Tibet. He was killed on 26 July 1905 by people who had been bribed by the lamas. An extraordinary event has been told that happened after his death. An English botanist, Presbyterian by religion, who managed to escape a persecution in Tibet: "I was saved by the good Mr. Dubernard," he affirmed. "While I was wandering all alone, in the mountains, Father Dubernard appeared to me four nights in a row; without saying a word, he showed me with his arm the direction I should follow. Without this help, I would certainly have fallen into the hands of the lamas." The Salle des Martyrs of the Paris Foreign Missions Society preserves the chalice of the venerable martyr. See also "Catholic Church in Tibet".
