Title
"J.v.Haynau" (= Julius von Haynau); Deutsches Sprichwörter-Lexikon (K.F.W.Wander, Leipzig 1870): "Die Hyäne von Brescia (Iena di Brescia): Sprichwörtliche Bezeichnung des wegen seiner Grausamkeit von der Volksmeinung geächteten österreichischen Generals Julius Jakob Freiherr von Haynau (* 14. Oktober 1786 in Kassel; † 14. März 1853 in Wien), der auch ironisch der »Engel von Brescia« heisst; Wegen der Mishandlung der dortigen Frauen hat er auch den Namen »Weiberpeitscher« erhalten. Wie es ihm dafür im Jahre 1850 in der Brauerei von Barclay in London erging, ist bekannt. Am 11. Sept. 1850 fand in Farringdon Hall, Snow Hill, London, eine Volksversammlung statt, in welcher er als ein »Feind des Menschengeschlechts« erklärt wurde, mit dem Zusatz: »Die Brauer Barclay, Perkins & Comp. haben sich, indem sie ihn lynchten, um die Menschheit verdient gemacht.« Es wurde auch darauf in derselben Brauerei ein »Stout-Haynau-Bier« gebraut. Und in Neuyork erschien eine Broschüre über seinen feierlichen Empfang in der genannten Brauerei."
