Summary[edit]

Description
English: Statue of Kal Bhairav 11 feet northwest of Durbar Square, Hanumandhoka, Kathmandu. The statue of Kal Bhairav is carved in black stone in an artistic style. This idol was installed by the then King Pratap Malla in front of his palace Hanuman Dhoka. Out of the six hands of Kalbhairav, adorned with big eyes and snake ornaments, the upper two hands are holding swords and shields, the middle two hands are holding hair and the lower two hands are holding tridents and charamunds. He is trampling on the sleeping Betal with both feet. Kal Bhairav has been worshiped since ancient times as the omniscient, omniscient and almighty deity. In the medieval system, any immoral worker was placed in front of this idol and worshiped. During the Rana period, when appointing, transferring, promoting, Thamauti and Khosuwa employees, it was customary to take oath in front of this idol. There is a religious belief that this Bhairav is worshiped to alleviate the crisis.
