| Description | Powerful stuff, this. If the grisly scenes you have seen so far were not disturbing enough, this one takes the cake. This is the infamous Killing Tree. Khmer Rouge used this tree to smash the heads of tiny infants to kill them, often in front of their mothers. The mothers were then violently dispatched by a machette or bashing them with other weapons. No bullets. The usual method of killing the babies was to hold them by one leg and then smash them violently into the tree till they died. After the Khmer Rouge was overthrown, visiting officials found brain and flesh fragments still stuck to the tree trunk. Note the many colourful Buddhist prayer charms left by visitors to the site.
