Faroese expression[edit]
In Faroese language, the kittiwake is called rita or ryta, and there is an expression:
- tigur ikki heldur enn ritan í berginum (á Kalsvík)
- he/she is no more silent than the kittiwakes in the bird cliffs (at Kalsvík)
- (i.e. can never keep quiet)
- he/she is no more silent than the kittiwakes in the bird cliffs (at Kalsvík)
Actually, the scenery on this photo was quite noisy, and it would have become even louder, if the tenthousand birds really fell in panic, as our skipper used his horn, in order to flush them out. He failed with his horn, and the kittiwakes remained in the cliff, when it finally worked.
