Summary[edit]

Description

At Uiwang Rail Museum, visitors are encouraged to do trainspotting, as the main Seoul-Busan rail line passes just outside. I decided to give it a try - my first and only trainspotting session.

The line is now primarily a freight line, as most passenger runs have been picked up by the KTX high-speed service and its dedicated line. However, passenger trains - both subway and mainline - still frequent it.

An oil train is being pulled by a Korail diesel-electric. These once were the workhorses of the Korail fleet, though more and more are being retired in favor of electric locomotives, as more mainline routes are electrified. The 7100 through 7400 series were used for both passenger and freight duty, while the 7500 series was for freight only. They are based on American contemporary designs, and initial examples were indeed imported from the US.
