Summary[edit]

Description
English: Annual estimates of the number of people in the USA aged 12 years and older who use LSD for the first time that year, from 1967 to 2008.

Numbers are from reports of the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.[1][2]

Note, these numbers are estimates, not precise measurements. 95% confidence intervals are likely quite wide.

Note, the survey design changed multiple times over the years, including in 1979, 1994, 1999 and 2002, so estimates may not be comparable year to year.[3][4]

Note, psilocybin mushrooms and MDMA (ecstasy) have become more popular than LSD. Among US residents aged 12 or older who first used "hallucinogens" (defined as LSD, PCP, MDMA (Ecstasy), peyote, mescaline, and psilocybin found in mushrooms) in 2004 or 2005, 52% used psilocybin mushrooms, 43% used ecstasy, and only 14% used LSD.[5]
