Français : La cour des ingénieurs royaux et la porte Saint-Louis depuis le glacis de la Citadelle, 28 octobre 1836, Philip John Bainbridge « De 1779 jusqu’au départ des troupes britanniques en 1871, le secteur est désigné comme la « cour des ingénieurs ». Les bâtiments érigés au fil des ans répondent aux multiples besoins découlant des travaux sur les fortifications et à la Citadelle : ateliers de menuisier et de scieur de long, forge, bureau du surveillant (à gauche), boutique de charron (au centre droit), etc. L’édifice principal, longeant la rue Saint-Louis, est sans nul doute le bureau des ingénieurs royaux (1816) équipé d’une salle de dessin. Aujourd’hui, ce bâtiment loge le Cercle de la Garnison fondé en 1879 par des commandants de la milice canadienne. Cette vue permet d’admirer le rempart garni d’arbres, vite coupés lors de conflits, l’ancienne porte Saint-Louis (1785), deux poternes ainsi que la poudrière de l’Esplanade (1815) visible encore aujourd’hui. Au premier plan, l’artiste s’est permis une touche d’humour en illustrant un chat de taille démesurée se cabrant au passage d’un chien.
